Jaye Ward, a Student, Illustrator and Designer

Portfolio

I'm a 21 year old student residing in Boston and I love to create.

Picture of Jaye

I am a former cat-person, now dog-person, but one day when I have my own yard I plan to live with both.

I love being active and over the course of my life thus far I've been a practitioner and instructor of yoga, belly dance, and various styles of martial arts. I love animals and the outdoors and the social and political sciences. And philosphy. And birds. I have a lot of opinions about everything, I take interest in the systems that surround me, and I'm an absolute nut for organization. I have the idea that we're put on this earth to help one another and leave it all a better place than we found it.

For more fun facts and good times, I've got another website, FoxGrin.com, which is my more informal online abode.

As an artist

I am seeking to form a unique identity through style and skill in a wide selection of my favorite media – namely : watercolor, pastel, ink, graphite, water-based oils, linoleum printmaking, digital painting, web design, and layout design. As a perfectionist and near-certified professor of detail-obsessiveness, sometimes my art really is a labor of love, but it's still love.

I take my inspiration from the natural world, especially organic silhouettes such as the shape of a feather, or a leaf, or a tree. I have a passion for contrasts and serifs, for color and line, for light and shadow. As of late my work has focused on honing my skills through practice and studying the processes of artists who I greatly admire. Although I would consider myself mainly a 2D artist, I've been reaching out and experimenting in things like wheel-thrown ceramics and bookmaking because I simply don't like to get stale.
